In the early days of circuit racing, the most popular boats were timber racing runabouts with hydroplanes, and the Club has seen many design changes along the way with V-boats, hydroplanes, tunnel decks and various forms of tunnel boats. Today, most boats are junior circuit boats, open sport boats, tunnel deck boats and F1 Tunnel boats. The Club has and continues to hold Victorian and Australian Titles in Victoria at various stages and venues, and often supports race meetings with other clubs within the racing calendar. We have many standalone title races such as the Paynesville Gold Cup dating back to 1954 that are perpetual trophies. The Victorian Outboard Club shares a passion for boats and encourages all ages of involvement, whether it be racing boats or volunteering at events. We have a growing membership base of new and old and always welcome new members. Memberships come in two forms – social and race. Powerboat racing is a great sport where all the family can join in and support each other with loads of friends to be made. There are many classes of boat racing with various classes from 15hp all the way through to the Unlimited Outboards that run F1 style Tunnel boats with speeds in excess of 160kph (100mph).
In December 2016, VOC hosted an event (maybe Snowly river Spectacular) down in Marlo which saw our (now) life-member Tim Martin win the Marlo cup. The event was also held the following year on Saturday 23rd of September 2017.
In 2019, we held a marathon for juniors (1 driver per boat, 1 compulsory pit stop, 2x 30 minutes) & 25HP (3 drivers per boat, 3 compulsory pit stops, 3.5 hours) at Lake Glenmaggie which saw drivers from inter-state competing.
On October 5th of 2019, we held APBA’s first-ever Tri-club event with the Victorian Speed Boat Club and Glenmaggie & District Boat Club, there were about 20 boats attending the event.
Since 2011, we have raised over $100,000 at our annual fundraising event at Lake Charm after a day of racing with include the running of Archer Eade Memorial Unlimited Outboard Trophy, which is in memory of Paul & Sue Eade’s son Archer, who passed away from SID’s.
